A Truss Dining Table for Jim and Maureen
Designed for Jim and Maureen, a retired couple living just down the road in Shepley. With a large extended family they wanted a table that was capable of seating at least 10 people.
Made from three boards of beautifully figured European oak all hand picked from the same boule. The woods natural detail is best demonstrated in the table top where four figure boards have been purposefully milled and book matched alongside rift sawn planks to recreate a natural grain pattern.
The truss dining table features slow curves along its length and explores the use of drawbore mortice and tenon joinery. Drawboring is the process of using offset holes to strengthen mortice and tenon joints by driving oak dowels through the drill holes to pull the shoulders of the tenons tight. The tie structure was designed to allow an additional person to sit on the ends of the table whilst keeping the legs locked in place, diagonal truss members were added to stop the tie structure from sagging.
Made from European oak.
